This course builds students’ knowledge and linguistic competence to oral and written form. Students will be able to talk about past and future events as well as communicate in both hypothetical situations and will be able to interact with others to describe their experiences, make recommendations and express feelings. Likewise, students will be able to understand event sequences and grasp meaning in simple oral and written pieces of discourse.

Lesson 1: Introductions, Past Experience, Interests & Future Plans
Introductions are important and can make a good impression. Listen to the instructor’s introduction. Pay attention to past experience, points of interest, and future plans. Take notes and be prepared to answer questions about the information provided in the introduction.

Activity (15 min): Write a brief introduction. Include information about your education and work experience. Also include some facts about a hobby or interest. Include some information about some future plans. Partner with a classmate and practice your introductions. What did you learn about your partner? Take some notes and be prepared to introduce your partner to the class. Include important details about their past experience, a hobby or interest, and their future plans.

Homework: Write your own sentences using this week’s vocabulary and idioms. Write one sentence for each vocabulary word and one sentence for each idiom. Write one paragraph about your future plans. Include information about education and career plans. Try to include some words from this week’s vocabulary list.
