Creswell, John. Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods Approaches. 3rd. Thousand Oaks, CA: SAGE Publications, Inc., 2009. Print.
This text provides a solid introduction to the methods of research design within qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method research studies. Of particular value are the examples of the various elements of research writing that are provided in each chapter. The focus of the text is on research done in the social sciences and human services, making it an applicable text for those doing research in composition studies. Another valuable aspect of the text is that it is current, providing additions to research methods that include 21st century approaches to design methods and data collection. Creswell also provides an in depth view of the relatively new practice of the mixed methods approach to research, which is very useful for those trying to incorporate both a qualitative and quantitative approach into their research designs. This is a practical text that is a useful reference for scholars who are starting their dissertation, or those who are continuing research in their respective fields.
